Atrum felt like mentioning why his people were proud of their scars for some reason, but he was also not particularly interested in talking unless spoken to. He only needed the damage from the cold and the burns to be looked at, should be simple then he would be out of the nice elder woman's hair. Well his muscles had been strained pretty hard but they only needed rest, and the ill effects of mana deprivation? Well, he oddly felt fine more or less in that department. Oh yeah dead tired and almost passing out but still he could be worse. He could've sworn that mana deprivation had far worse symptoms. Oh well one less thing to worry about.
"Ahh, yes ma'am." he replied crossing his legs and sliding to the floor putting his hands on his knees. "I apologize my people never really stop growing it just sort of slows down after reaching maturity." He offered an explanation before falling silent again and awaiting instructions. Doctors, yeah he still had a bit underlying nervousness but you don't mess with the person trying to improve your health. that was needlessly stupid and mean move to pull. Not that this knowledge or view point really made Atrum act better as much as it made him quiet. Bit hard to get along with someone if you're always all business.

The old woman looked Atrum over, a thoughtful look on her face the entire time. Kotone watched her with mild curiosity, but had to look away to dig through her pack for a spare shirt now that everything was being taken care of. It wouldn't do to go home in ripped up clothing; it would cause undo concern and she'd have to explain things and Kade would probably get unnecessarily worried. She sighed and chuckled. At one point it was easy to get into any amount of trouble without people worrying, but in her opinion it was better to have people that did. She'd tried both sorts of lives after all.
"Hmmm you got worked over good, lad," the old lady chuckled bemusedly. She placed a hand on Atrum's head now that he was low enough for her to do so, concentrating. "Dear goodness. What sort of things have you been putting yourself through? Even your magical aura is out of wack, as my grandaughter would say. No matter, I think I can help fix it somewhat."
"Well other than my recent work out, What I have been through would be a rather long and depressing story." Atrum replied before blinking at her mention of his magical aura being...' out of whack'. "Ah, yes. I used, almost all of my magic power, It was kind of a dumb move, though i do not really feel all that bad I figured I must be fine more or less." He said finding that his guard lowered as the elder woman did her work and spoke to him. It made him realize that he never met his grand parents, or if he did it was so long ago that he didn't even remember that they existed.
"So what do you mean by 'out of whack'? I assume that means something is wrong, is there something the matter with my magic aura?" He asked curiously, come to think of it when was the last time he had a medical professional look at him? He even avoided the nurses that hung around Fairy Tail. Hells he shouldn't worry about it too much, if he was going by when he should've died it would've been back in his homeland. He did a lot more dumb things there, he didn't even know he had a limited amount of magical power back then. Not to mention he was definitely not as disciplined. He was lucky to still be fighting as he was now.

"No no, dear." The old lady chuckled and waved off Atrum's concern. "Not when I'm through with you at any rate. It's almost like you've been constantly subjected to other strange magics for a long time and it's damaged your aura."
Kotone just watched them passively up until that point. The young woman chuckled, grinning at Atrum. "That's her way of lecturing you without lecturing you," she explained with a shrug. "She used to always tell me how angry my aura was, then bop me on the nose when I got angry at her for it."
Well if you weren't such a stubborn young lady at the time there could have been far less bopping," the woman replied while she worked on Atrum. "You were a good kid, but you were hardly without your faults you know. I like to think I'm the reason you're such an upstanding young lady now."
"You're probably the reason I'm such an alive person now, but no I know where the credit goes for that and it's not to anyone in here," she shrugged. The magic faded on her burns, leaving the same flawless skin Kotone had before. She examined her arms, which had the worst of the burns. She'd need to change into a less tattered shirt in a minute, but for now... Kotone's eyes widened as she suddenly started scratching the spots that were healed "Dear spirits, woman that magic itches so freaking bad! I always forget about that!"
"That is not entirely inaccurate." Atrum replied simply smiling at the memories, at least she wasn't questioning him about the details of his scars or something like that, he'd rather not spend the entire session describing every combat situation he'd ever found himself in. "Geh heh, your speech is still blunt as ever, It is rather good to be home. now if only I could find my hat." He said resisting the urge to grind his teeth. From what he understood, some impostor was running around with his hat, his family's only true belonging. it made his blood boil and not in a good way. He couldn't wait to find the freaking asshole and beat him with the hat he stole. No one stole his hat and got away with it. The giant forcefully calmed himself down, it wasn't doing him good. Not to mention it would probably bother the others.
"It itches eh? Guess I am going to have to be ready for that. Still watching you freak out about it is entertaining enough to be worth it." Atrum remarked with a smirk, he hadn't really grown out of that urge to tease others, it was a trait he shared with his sister though not to her extent. Now that he thought of it he hadn't met with anyone from his family other than his brother for like six or so years. he should get in contact with them, after he got his hat back. He sighed and looked to the Vargr that followed him everywhere. "Little one this must be boring you, if you want you can go find a place to eat and i'll meet you up there later." He spoke to the Northern Wolf that simply walked off without making a real response. Well she was eager to get going.

Kotone continued scratching furiously. It would subside in a few minutes but in the meantime it was like her flesh was on fire with a sensation that only got relieved when she stubbornly attacked herself with her fingernails. She glanced back up at Atrum's teasing. "Shut up, you!" she glared as she resisted the sudden urge to roll around on the floor and use the rug as a full body scratcher.
The old lady just shook her head. "Some things never change, no matter how much a person does." She certainly had a smug look on her face at Kotone's torture. Apparently she was amused by the young woman's outburst. "Now, as for you..." She looked back over at Atrum. "I could remove these scars, but I suspect you're rather proud of them, being a Northerner as you are," she stopped channeling the magic she was channeling and looked Atrum in the eyes and ignoring the small dog as it left. "I spent a short time in the North myself as a young lass. I got plenty of practice with my medical magic mending the youngsters who didn't know when to quiet. I suppose I should thank you and yours for that."
"Geh heh" Atrum chuckled softly at kotone's anger. He knew he was next for the itching but hells if he wasn't finding this hilarious, the giant got comfortable The older woman stopped and stared him in the eyes, Atrum blinked, most people avoided his eyes, not because they were weird but mostly because they were too busy looking at other things. Like his teeth. He listened as she talked to him, he...forgot how influential his people could be. They were the worlds most feared warriors, highly sought after mercenaries and sell swords. He could remember the missions he went on, being hired by freedom fighters or tyrants, he found himself in the courts of several kings on several accounts when he was younger. He almost died, those jobs probably changed the course of those countries histories. He never really remembered being thanked, even the freedom fighters kinda just paid his group and sent them on their way. It was kind of nice.
"I am just glad that I got to see someone benefit from our violent ways." The giant paused and gave the older woman an earnest smile. if she had been in the north healing the wounded of his people she was definitely trustworthy. "My clan never really let outsiders in unless they needed help, maybe the others were a bit more welcoming and trusting but if one of our clans let you in, you must have earned it. Oh and there is the itching, Oh wow that is worse than I imagined. Weird side effect." He said scratching at himself, trying not to laugh at his situation. He had fun today, now he just needed to find his hat and gah! That was distracting. Anyways where was he? oh yeah. He just needed to find his hat. "Geh heh this itches like hell."

It was Kotone's turn to laugh. The dragon slayer nearly doubled over from the amount of hillarity she found in the payback Atrum was getting. She'd stopped itching now that her skin was properly knitted together. "See? Not so easy is it, Mr. Tough Guy?" she didn't lose that impish grin as she stood up and grabbed her spare shirt, going around a corner to switch out her torn clothes before reappearing. She leaned against the wall, arms crossed.
She brushed some hair from her face as she watched the woman work idly. Atrum was one of the few people that truly hadn't changed in the last four years or so, while everyone else including herself had gone though some rather drastic changes. It was weird to see, or even think about.
"I expected you to say something like that. Your people never really seem to lose their sense of culture, no matter how long they're gone from their lands." The old woman chuckled. "As a matter of fact their village had many wounded after a vicious attack, and I was lucky enough to be there to patch most of them up before they died. I was there researching herbs and the like. It's good to know what will fix someone when your magic won't do the trick, after all."
Kotone chuckled. She was amused to say the least. "You never told me you'd been up north. What did you have to reattach limbs because they wouldn't stop fighting until they were missing too many to fight?"
"As a matter of fact I did on a few of them."
Kotone hesitated for a moment. "Oh. Why am I not surprised...?"
The woman finally stopped her healing, looking satisfied with her work. "You might experience a tiny bit more itching before you stop. I had quite a bit to work on, you know."
"Tch, I have had worse," Atrum insisted, resisting the urge to gnaw on his arm with his teeth, that would be foolish for several reasons. "Our culture is the only reason we are still alive, I think the closest phrase for it in this language is 'survival of the fittest' i guess that fits. We fight to get stronger, running and hiding must not have been favorable options I guess. Still i like where we come from, we all had to work hard to carve out our little corners of life, it made everything worth it. When we did have time to relax and party and such we were particularly enthusiastic about it." He continued scratching at his arm while he took a trip down memory lane, he missed those celebrations his people used to have, sure Fairy Tail was rowdy and welcoming but there was a distinct lack of that piece of home. He should meet up with his family again if only for that nostalgic feeling.
"Although yeah I guess we are kinda thick headed, refuse to retreat against a stronger enemy, change tactics, observe and learn, take breaks, but never retreat. We don not stop until we learn how to win, it was the source of basically all our major injuries, I am not surprised at all you ended up having to fix a bunch of us up. The herbs was a pretty good idea as well, I never had anyone with healing magic at an arms length so I had to rely on the salves and medicines made from local herbs and ones we brought in from other areas. Tended to be horrendously bitter and stung open wounds terribly, but it worked and that was pretty much all that mattered at the time." He said remembering his younger years with that time jump they were so much farther now but he hadn't aged a day. There went his mind again right back to that annoying line of thought.

The ice dragon slayer watched the pair talk with interest. It seemed the more that was said the more the two bonded, and the more Atrum spoke of his home as if with rose-tinted glasses. It was a strange phenomenon, considering how hard life had been. The grass was always greener, right? Kotone moved to stand closer to Atrum, her hands migrating to her pockets as she did so.
"You know what works better than being stubborn?" she asked with a raised eyebrow. She reached over and shoved him while he scratched. "Not just standing there and taking the hit! I swear if you die on me a second time I will find a way to revive you just so I can take my revenge and murder you, myself." Kotone sighed, annoyed at the thought of Atrum continuing to stubborn his way through fights. It was a good perk for finishing a fight too hard for anyone else to win, but it shouldn't be what he relied on as much as he did. Even if he didn't know how to die he might learn one day.
"I'll be outside," she shrugged, going back to that nonchalant attitude from before. "Good seeing you, Granny." Kotone exited the building with a small flip of her hair.
The old woman just shook her head and laughed it off. "She means well. She's never quite lost that temper despite her best efforts these past few years, it seems." she shook her head. "Well, unless you care to rest, and I know your type doesn't, you can follow when you wish."
Kotone stood against the wall outside, arms crossed again. She stared through bangs that once again fell into her face at the scenery beyond the people walking in the streets. People obviously recognized the local hero and wizard saint, but they neither feared her nor gave her special attention. That was the nice thing about this town. People here knew her well enough to know how much she enjoyed not having to worry about that sort of crap once in awhile. "Maybe I should teach him to dodge, myself. He's built like a mountain but mountains don't bleed."
"It is not like I just ignore every hit that comes my way." Atrum chuckled in response. It was true he took a lot of hits straight on, but he dodged hits that he could. it was just that he went up against opponents who preferred to be faster than him more often than not. He normally couldn't just dodge the attacks. He was always a bit slower anyways so instead of focusing on agility he chose instead to increase his endurance and strength. On the one hand he doubted that kotone would be too broken up if he did die, sure maybe at first, losing a friend was painful no matter what, but the giant doubted he had much of a place in kotone's life now, maybe four years ago a sparing partner at least, but she had moved on by now.
"She is a good person, I am glad that we became friends at the very least." He shrugged noncommittally, he continued scratching at himself as the itching became calming down a bit. "Personally I find her blunt and honest personality rather refreshing, it is nice knowing that she is worried even if she has a hard time saying it eloquently." He said smirking He rotated his armed testing his body out with a bit of light stretching finding that things were basically find. Though he probably shouldn't push it too far. "Thank you I appreciate what you have done for me. Geh heh I will be sure to return the favor someday soon." He promised standing up and giving the older woman a bow. With that farewell, and a soft smile on his face he followed Kotone out the door.
"So you hungry? The little one and I were about to get something to eat before you showed up, I would not mind sharing what we get with you." He offered nudging Kotone a bit with his arm as the little size changing pup dragged his pack back. He took his bag and slung it across his shoulder and picked up the pup and dropped it down into his backpack. "That sound good?"

"It seems you missed your mark for once, you giant black hole," Kotone teased as she stood there, glancing only minimally in Atrum's direction as he exited the building. She'd heard everything going on in the building, what with her enhanced dragon slayer senses and all. she grinned, revealing her fangs if only just barely. "I ate before you arrived. I'd just got back from it, actually."
Kotone's grin turned to a frown as she watched him idly. "Still, if you want my, I suppose you've probably got questions. I could give you a few minutes." she shrugged. She was still mad at him for dying on her once, and she had a feeling he was going off to go get beat up by someone who wasn't an expert at not killing with lethal force. She'd joked earlier that he didn't know how to die, but the truth was she did worry about anyone she called her friend, as well as just about anyone she didn't who wasn't asking to get a sword in the face.
"Well having someone who might actually have some answers to my questions would be nice considering that literally everyone I asked either stared at me like I was some sort of monster or flat out did not know." The giant said with a shrug, he gave his head a scratch before continuing. "I mean you would think that people would know whether or not they were able to find the body of the Shadow lord and what condition it was in. I have not even heard of the over all news of that day. For all I know he could have survived and ran off."
The giant lead the way to a nearby food place, a small quaint place that sold eastern food, rather interesting place and there was some sort of meat bowl challenge that the pup seemed interested in taking. The giant didn't really mind it and sat down and took the challenge twice because the pup was a canine and technically couldn't take the challenge. He shrugged at the little one's indignation and waited for the food to arrive, he gave a sigh as he waited for his body to normalize. "So is it just me or is this time of peace, weird feeling? I mean I understand that I come from a war torn background, but this peace does not feel real. Like something terrible is lurking just around the corner. Maybe it was the time I spent here there was brief moments of peace before something terrible happened but even then it didn't feel like something evil was literally lurking just out of reach." He said taking a drink of the complimentary water.

Kotone wasn't sure how it always ended up like this. A fight and then food. Was this really all Atrum did, or was she just lucky like that? She had her hands shoved in her pockets, following Atrum as he led them to one of the several local restaurants. She didn't say much until they were seated, despite the looming questions. She brushed some of her hair back, sighing. "Suffice to say he was killed and it wasn't pretty," Kotone shrugged. "I saw it happen; it was either you or Tatsuma... hard to say. But right after he was struck that flash of magic happened and he and a bunch of other people, you included, disappeared."
Kotone shifted to a more relaxed position on her end of the booth, resting her elbow on the table. "That's the short of it. Everyone else either gave up or ran after that. Then a lot of annoying stuff happened and things are how they are now. I'm pretty sure you don't want or need the details on the help I was suckered into in making sure the whole reformation thing worked out."
Atrum expressed finding peace to be weird. Or suspicious... or something. "It's not so bad. It's not like there's nothing to do. There's plenty of smaller things to do. Just less world-threatening powers all trying to make people miserable. The more things change the more things stay the same in that respect." She tilted her head slightly in thought. "Then again, sometimes changes are a good thing."
"That is not comforting I have not seen his body and it did not appear with me when I came back, Well...there was a human heart....but..." Atrum's gaze went far away as he remembered that moment. "Nevermind." He said taking the food and giving the pup her bowl giving her a stern look as he started eating. He made use of his large size to block the pup from others site as she ate, adorable little thing wasn't she? "So no one has the details I guess I should just get used to the fact that no one except for the few of us right there saw everything and even I do not have much to say on the subject other than I think I might have ripped his heart out of his chest." He grumbled under his breath trying not to bother others who might be near by.
"Sounds like a bunch of busy work to me." He said in response to her talking about the reformation work. He wasn't really interested, true, over all it had little to do with him. He was absent when it was happening, couldn't contribute, it was done anyways from what he could see. No point in dwelling on it, moving on. "Let me say that things look a lot better than they used to however." He mentioned, waving an arm back and forth before looking down at his bowl. This was a staggering amount of meat, it was pretty cool actually.
"That is not exactly what I meant, I mean sure peace makes my skills rust and everything but this feels almost sinister." He shrugged, he bounced the feeling back and forth in his head. He couldn't really place it. "I guess it must be just a bit jarring for me to feel like nothing bad is happening after almost literally coming out of a war zone. It is not like these feelings ever mean anything. I am probably just paranoid." He said shrugging, before shoveling more food into his mouth.
