Grand city was truly beautiful city. The council was smart in making it the new capital. All the construction and fanfare brought new jobs and people to Fiore. The economic value of such a move was lost on Freya. She admired the bustling activity and the energy the people had. Too bad today would be her last day. That was a bit melodramatic. It would be her last day for a long while before she held the reigns again.
Freya was at odds with herself. That was amusing if you knew her circumstances. She had been very angry, full of rage at the world since her rebirth. To be sealed away into someone else’s body, to not have control, it was hurtful. It was a change she had not expected. Her first week of her rebirth had been… full of distrust and upset. But this past week, this past week she had just lived. Wandered and met new people. Did and learned new things. Enjoyed the company no matter the species. Time was precious. That was even more amusing coming from a dragon. But this was something she always knew. The death of her daughter made her see how time was not infinite. That time was precious no matter how long one had. Her revenge saw to it that her time had ended rather soon. But those were thoughts to ponder when she was in the dark once more.
A coughing fit hit her so she paused, drew to the side of the street to allow people through. The cloth she carried immediately went to cover her mouth. When it was over she looked down upon the cloth which was now covered with blood. Hand upon the building she was next to as if to hold her up. This body was strong but it could only hold her full presence for so long. This was her life, to always live on borrowed time. She could not decide whether that depressed her or if she should be grateful to see life anew once again no matter how borrowed.
Putting the cloth back in her pocket, she began walking once more. Violet orbs on children playing in the street. They held wooden swords and one had a patch over his eye. Their laughter filled the road and beyond. Freya would bet Grand City was the most positive, and joyful, of all the places in Fiore. Or maybe that was just today.
She heard it before everyone else did, a clattering of hooves. Automatically turning towards the sound, she saw three horses bound around the corner. They were riderless, a quick look at their faces and you could see the whites of their eyes. Terrified. Of what? More importantly, they were headed for the children playing in the road. Most of the adults had the sense to dodge to the side. Freya was running without thinking. She needed to reach the children before the horses did. “Move out of the way!” Reaching out, she scooped one oblivious kid around the middle with her right arm, pulling him close to her body. The second horse was parallel with her, which did not allow her to grab the second child. So instead she called what strength she had and hit the horse on the shoulder like a line backer. The horse, so startled out of its terrified state, became unbalanced and fell from the sudden impact. Having put all of her strength into it, she herself fell and skid sideways. Taking the brunt of the skid on her left side as the child was on top of her and in no way touching the ground. She hoped she was not the only stupid one to take on three fifteen hundred plus pound horses.
Hawke had some freedome from Pyrrah after what felt longer than the trip to Grand City. He didn't regret traveling with someone else for a change. But where he should have been excited and happy he only felt guilt. And some frustration that she probably didn't deserve. Didn't deserve? Who was he kidding? She was a brat. She deserved every bit of frustration from him.
But that wasn't why he felt the guilt. They were close on his heels... closer than they had been in a long time. Were they picking up on some pattern he didn't realize he'd created? Had someone tipped them off? Well... it didn't matter. Pyrrah was now woefully entangled if they decided to fight dirty. His father was too proud to take a hostage. Right? The fact that he had to question that thought terrified him.
Hoves slamming against solid ground snapped him from his wanderings around Grand City. Pyrrah was pushed from his mind as he quickly took stock of his surroundings. There were lots of people getting out of the way. The horses that were running by looked as if they'd just been startled. And there were oblivious kids in the path of the horses. Of course, by the time this properly registered in his head, a woman was diving out to save the kids. One of the horses connected, but he remained focused on what he needed to do.
The bottoms of both palms touched the ground, and the ambient water in the air moved to his command. If the woman wasn't dead he could save her. But there would be more injured if he didn't stop the horses first. A wall of water shot up reaching from building to building in front of the horses. They rear up, making excited noises as they began to turn around. Water formed around the woman and the kids as sweat formed on Hawke's brow. He wasn't used to channeling this much magic all at once... and he wasn't done yet.
Another wall of water shot up sealing the horses in. Realizing they had nowhere to run they began calming down. Just in time as people came racing up after the horses. As they reached the water walls he released all of his magic with a sigh. He was used to long times using small amounts of magic, not short bursts of a lot of magic... and he could feel it.
"Ma'am," Hawke walked over to the woman slowly. He knew that people who just got hurt were likely to lash out suddenly if they thought they were still in danger. So his approach was slow and cautious even as people began moving in and out of the area. It wouldn't be long before the Templars caught wind of the accident and showed up. "Are you okay? Everything's settled down now."
Violet eyes took in the water walls that suddenly surrounded her and the children. Someone else had come to save the day. The death grip she had on the child loosened. “You okay kid?” Wide brown eyes met hers before he took off. “Huh.” She rolled onto her back and let her head lay on the ground. Having closed her eyes, they flew open at ‘Ma’am.’ She suddenly began coughing and rolled onto her stomach, hand covering her mouth. Sitting up, she closed the hand that had covered her mouth. “I wouldn’t recommend shoulder checking a horse… other than the scraps down my arm I am okay.” No sense bringing up that which was only a matter of time.
Taking in their surroundings finally, she noticed the horses being lead away. “I have you to thank for the rescuing I suppose?”
