Eden hadn’t had anything that she would consider interesting to do lately. Not that she needed things to be interesting. This was life, not an action movie. Still, she travelled all around the globe, making money, but not really learning anything. She wasn’t being challenged, which was kind of great. It meant that, in effect, she wasn’t struggling to survive. Her boss had some downtime though. Apparently a relative wanted him to visit, so he was taking a bit of time off from their usual trips, which meant Eden had time to fill.
Which meant Eden was looking for a job similar to the one she did every day. Way to branch out there, Eedie. She was near enough to Crocus that she stopped into town looking for work. Apparently a man named Armstrong was looking for someone to protect him. The name would imply that he could take care of himself, but Eden knew that names, and even appearances didn’t count for much. She looked like she couldn’t take care of herself, but she managed just fine. Even if her magic was not combat specific, she was clever enough to keep trouble at arm’s length. She went to the location the job was posted in to look for a way to contact this man.
Eden wasn’t absolutely riveted by the job, but the new it would give her something to do. It would also give her money. Always working for one person did have a few drawbacks. For example, he had to make enough money to pay her. Like a pyramid scheme, there was always left at the bottom. In this case it was merely a two person pile, but she was still on the bottom. When she met Lance Armstrong she made sure to be on her best behavior. He was bald, and clearly did not care. It seemed to make a bigger contrast to show off his mustache, which he touched several times more than was normal.
Eden was polite to him, but was a bit confused when he asked about her manliness. “I, uh… don’t have any?” Apparently that was unsatisfactory, and she would need to behave with the utmost manliness to perform this job for him. When she asked him what that meant, he described things that were not so much manly as awesome. She must work with much gusto. She could do that. He needed an escort to the city, as he did not have his own magic. That was easy enough. She explained her usual job as security for a caravan and this seemed to boost her credibility.
