appearance
Albel is of average height, with well-toned muscle, with a tanned skin tone. His hair is a chestnut brown, with matching eyes. Traditionally he wears the Templar armor that marks him as captain, a steel breastplate with a tailor-made leather coat, which ends near his boots. On some occasions he has been known to wear a standard Templar uniform. Under his uniform is a marred tattoo of a heart, from his previous time in Shadow Heart. He has since burned it off to be nearly unrecognizable, though one can tell if they look closely. His posture is generally perfect, directly looking into the eyes of whoever he speaks to. Even when he's joking, he generally delivers with a perfectly straight face. Until he's off duty. Then he'd prefer to speak with his feet resting against his desk.
When Albel took the reigns of Templar Captain, he has since been praised as a hero. But this was not always so. In reforming the entire Magic Council into a single cohesive law system, he was forced to make many difficult choices that have killed a lot of his initial hopeful idealism. Even so, he has remained true to his initial ideals. He has been betrayed, but will never betray a companion. He's willing to take on problems that no one else would want to mess with. And despite his new-found fame, he does not brag or boast, although his confidence is extremely high in himself and the Templars.
This can make him stubborn when it comes to decisions, and sometimes his stubborness can lead to poor decisions. He expects the best from his Templars, but also is extremely critical on himself, always seeking to improve both his mental and physical skills. He prefers the active work as a Templar, instead of the paperwork he's recently been stuck with, leading him to procrastinate about a lot of his work. When he was younger, he used to be a gullible fool who fell for every woman. He's since become wiser, no longer falling into ridiculous situations or traps (he's been robbed more than once). However, he still retains his interest in women, and has a secret campaign to change the female Templar uniform into mini-skirts with stockings.
history
Many of Albel's Templar companions come from long lineages of families that served in Fiore's law and military. Albel's family history is not quite the same. His distant family served Fiore's royal family line. Albel's childhood memories are in Crocus's palace. His grandfather Nobuo was the advisor to the King, and Albel's father was the captain of Fiore's military. Until the war with Valland. Valland declared war by decimating Era. Only a year later, assassins killed the King and his entire family.... or so everyone thought. Nobuo had managed to save a lone prince. Albel's family nursed the prince back to health secretly. The prince later formed the dark guild Shadow Heart in an effort to retake the throne (which had basically been absolved by Fiore's Magic Council).
Albel was originally trained in the shadows. His grandfather taught him the secret magic of ghost blades, the ability to withdraw phantom-like blades from a spiritual vault. Albel was one of the founding members of Shadow Heart at the age of 18. Their purpose was to eventually regain power and the favor of Fiore's purpose. However, in the first year, Albel's grandfather Nobuo and Albel's father Jacob, had a fight about Shadow Heart's direction. Jacob believed that Shadow Heart was going too far in its efforts, and was actually harming Fiore more than helping it. This inevitably lead to Jacob breaking off from Shadow Heart – and Albel followed him. His younger brother Cain stayed in Shadow Heart, and Albel has not heard from him since then.
The parting wasn't as mutual as Albel had initially thought. Shadow Heart assassins were sent after him and his father the very next day. His father perished, yet Albel survived. This marked the true turning point in Albel's life. He resolved that he wanted to make the world a better, safer place... with or without the royal family. He didn't know what he could do, but he knew he had to do something. So he joined the Magic Council.
It wasn't an easy ride, if it could even be considered that. He had joined because he wanted to fix Fiore, but the Magic Council did things like outlawing guildless mages. In essence, he saw the law at its worst. It was demoralizing. His only hope was that others around him had similar ideals. He made many friends in the Magic Council; those who also wanted to law to help people. When the Magic Council split into two factions, most of his friends abandoned their uniforms to aid their war hero, Cornelius Argon. Albel remained loyal to the original commander, and joined the ranks of the Loyalists. It was in these ranks that Albel made a name for himself, and even began to know Cornelius on a personal level.
When Valland attacked again, Albel unified the different groups of Fiore (ex-Shadow Heart, Crusaders, and Loyalists) to stand against the enemy nation. Fiore's forces were able to stand as one against Valland, giving the heroes enough time to infiltrate and attack Valland's main command. With their enemy defeated, it was time for the law to be reformed. With a lot of advice and wisdom from Cornelius, Argon reformed the groups into the Templars, their ranks consisting primarily of the ex-Crusaders and ex-Loyalists, with even a few from Shadow Heart. Cornelius has stepped down from being involved with the law, but still offers Albel advice when needed.
Now Albel seeks to lead the Templars in a way that can protect Fiore from itself, and avoid further civil war.
Primary Magic
Name: Aetherblade Magic Description: Albel can conjure swords directly from the spirit realm. He can pull out single heroic-like weapons, or a myriad of lesser blades. They all have a semi-transparent look to them, and cannot be held except by Albel. He has the ability to make the swords tangible or intangible.
Signature Ability
Name: Soul of the Blade Element: darkness Description: Albel can take one or two targets into a separate dimension, the whole world becoming like a tombstone of swords. Albel can pick up and use any of these swords to fight an opponent. When in the reality space, time on the outside moves slower. This space is basically the 'vault' where he pulls the blades from in his other magical abilities. This uses an incredible amount of magic, and even if Albel wins, puts him in a very vulnerable state when returning to the normal world.
