Nobles among humans but servants of dragons, Pyrrha Drakos's family has served the great dragon Belfyire for generations. Rather than training them in the arts of the dragon slayer, the dragon elects to give them a different set of powers entirely - an ancient and nearly forgotten technique even most dragons don't remember. While the male children of the line are allowed to be trained as wizards (usually lightning magic users), Pyrrha and the other females are given a special mark at birth - one that negates all magic with a simple touch. They're a strange combination of knight and priestess, existing to further the goals of the enigmatic female dragon.
Pyrrha is from the island known as "The Crystal Isle." It is a large, secluded island, protected by perpetual storms all around. Because of this, only the dragon Belfyire and her servants may enter or leave without express permission. It is essentially a nation unto itself, though its size pales in comparison to many countries around it.
The singing of steel cutting through air rang in Pyrrha's ears as she narrowly avoided her brother's sword. He was stronger than her, and technically he had the advantage of magic. Well, it would be an advantage if he weren't in this family.Lightning crackled as he released a bolt to try and surprise her as she recovered from her dodge. All it took was her hand. She held out her left hand, and suddenly, it was as if the spell itself had never existed.
The whole time Pyrrha never stopped moving. She swung the blunt end of her polearm, bashing Tobias in the side hard enough to make him yelp. She knew how the training went by now - it wasn't over until he had no way out. While he recovered she swung the other end, catching him with the part of the weapon under the blade. This time, he wasn't able to recover and fell. He wasn't getting up - not with the blade of the glaive at his throat.
"Heheh, I win this time, Tobias~" she giggled "I bet you didn't expect your little sis to have moves like that!"
"I didn't expect her to be quite so fast," the blond boy countered. "Or for her to be such a sore winner," he teased back, flicking her on the forehead as she pulled him up.
"Ow!" she scrunched her nose in response. "Oh come on, you've beaten me the last three times! I just needed to wait for the caffiene to kick in is all." Pyrrha was anything but a morning person. Unfortunately, that was when the training was supposed to be going on.
"You aren't helping yourself," Tobias rolled his eyes. "If I were you, I'd have at least looked dignified when I won a fight. Not like I just stumbled across the largest candy stash in the land."
"I can't help if I'm happy I won..." Pyrrha frowned, rubbing her forehead again.
Her brother sheathed his sword, a grin on his face despite the lecturing. "I'm so lucky I got such a modest little sister," he stated flatly. "At any rate, I believe Belfyire said to come see her when you could beat all of us. I was the only one you were having trouble with, so I suppose you'd best obey her if you want to keep that entitled little head of yours."

"Mistress Belfyire," Pyrrha crossed one leg in front of the other as she curtsied for the ancient dragon. The two were alone; it had happened before, but one never just got used to being alone with such a powerful dragon. "I came like you asked." Even Pyrrha knew not to be a goofball in front of the Mistress of her family; she'd instantly become more serious when the giant doors had opened.
The blue dragon nodded her massive head in acknowledgment. Her posture was comfortable; she didn't move often - she didn't have to, what with a small army of drakes and humans at her command. "It is good to hear how your training is progressing," the dragon spoke to the mind; her mouth never moved. "I wish to skip the pleasantries, however. You see, I have a special mission in mind for you, daughter of Aela."
Pyrrha curtsied once more. She had kept her eyes to the ground so far, but they raised to meet the dragon's gaze at her statement. "What would you have me do, Mistress?"
"You have heard that long ago I lost a treasure of great importance to me." Of course Pyrrha knew; her family had spent a very long time in the presence of the dragon. There were a great many stories they had heard of both triumphs and betrayals, including why the dragon favored the females of her line over the males. "I would have you retrieve it, though it may take you a very long time."
Pyrrha simply nodded, gulping. She had never left the estate before. But she knew her family learned what they did for a reason - to do as the ancient dragon desired. "W-where will I look for it?" she asked after a moment. The very idea was intimidating, but Pyrrha was not one to back down from something because it was scary.
"You will begin in Fiore. I know not where it will be by the time you arrive, but it is where it was last seen, according to my minions." At about that point, the crystal drake Pyrrha affectionately called Bloo appeared from the shadows, where he preferred to nap. He yawned even as the dragon addressed him. "Take your companion with you. I will speak to you through him on your travels. You will leave tomorrow. Take this time to say your goodbyes."
Well, this was all sudden. The conversation itself hadn't even been that long. But Pyrrha knew better than to question a dragon with eons more knowledge and experience than her. "Of course," she picked up Bloo, who climbed onto her shoulder with a small squeak. "I won't fail you, Mistress. I promise."

Memory One: Chosen (Part 3)
"Aw come on Mom..." Pyrrha protested as her mother fretted with Pyrrha's new robes she was wearing. "I'm fifteen. I'm an adult! You can stop fretting over me like a child..." Fifteen was the age the people on her island were considered adults for most intents and purposes. That included traveling halfway across a continent to Fiore, apparently.
The woman called Aela chuckled that amused, motherly chuckle. "I know, I know, dear. It's just that you've been given such an important task. I know she's taken a liking to you... I just don't want to see you get hurt because you were sent out too early..."
Pyrrha had stayed up all night preparing for her journey. She'd been too nervous to sleep, so she'd double and triple checked everything. She and Bloo had concluded they were all ready, and had nothing to worry about.
"Mooom...." Pyrrha tugged her head as Aela re-tied one of her pigtails needlessly (Pyrrha had done a fine job not fifteen minutes ago). "It's not too early. Mistress Belfyire knows what she's doing. She says I'm stubborn enough to get the job done and not give up, remember? I told you what she said..."
Bloo chirped his agreement. He was a small drake, more like a flying cat than a dragon. But he was an intelligent one who could understand humans. He had quite the liking for his dragon mistress as well, and didn't like Aela's misplaced worry. It suggested the elder dragon might be making a mistake in his eyes.
"See, Mom? Bloo believes in me too," the pigtailed girl protested, tugging again as she tried to get away from her mother's straightening and re-straightening of her clothes.
Aela sighed, finally ceasing her poking. "I suppose you're right. A mother can't help but worry, though." She placed her hands on her hips as she looked her daughter over again. "Now remember, the boat leaves in an hour. Don't forget to tell your brothers goodbye, or they'll never let you live it down when you return."
