If he’d had his way Ira would have never returned to Magnolia in his lifetime. The city that had once filled him with wonder and peace now disgusted him. The people that inhabited the city carried on with their daily lives, blissfully ignorant to the struggles of the world and the corruption around them. It made him sick. He wanted to rend their flesh from their bones and sample their blood. They deserved death, slowly and painfully.
Unfortunately, he was here on business. A job had come in requesting that the mage that had taken the job return a families son to them by keeping him away from a fighting ring and as luck would have it, Ira was the only one available to take the request at the time.
How dreadfully dull. His first mission in a while and he wasn’t allowed to slaughter or play with the target. He sighed, bringing his left arm up and admiring his bracelet for a moment before glaring at the building adjacent to him. It was in that building that his target was located and, like it or not, Ira had to pose as a fighter to reach the target. How brutish…
Still he had his objective, glaring at the bouncer to make the man shut up about the rules as he prepared for the first match. When he finally made it to the ring, he saw his first opponent and sighed. The man looked like an idiot, constantly glaring at anybody that laughed at his name.
“Sue Liz, a man with a simple goal: to win this competition. It’s a shame you came against me in the first round. I won’t even have to use my magic to kill you…” Ira trailed off, scoffing when the man-child slammed his fists together in an attempt to act threatening before slipping the bandage over his right eye to cover his left eye too, leaving him blind.
This seemed to offend the man, who growled and stepped forward, leaping into action as soon as the gong rang. Ira only sighed as the man hurtled towards him, twisting out of the way of a sloppy punch that seemed to hum with magical power, reaching out and grabbing Sue’s forearm and flipping the man over his shoulder in one fluid motion.
He might not be able to see the man, but the ring made plenty of noise when somebody moved, so he only had to stay still to hear and feel his opponent. He smirked cruelly as the man approached him again, dodging another one of the man’s magical punches before twisting the man’s arm around his back, slamming his knee into the elbow joint earning him a satisfying crack as Sue’s left arm was broken.
From there he flipped over the man, slamming his knee into the man’s chin, breaking Sue’s jaw as well. The first round was pathetic, this Sue person spent too long winding himself up to fight clearly. He had no style, no technique. He was weak, so he would die. In a brutal move, Ira slammed his right fist forward, caving in the man’s chest and…
Impaling him on Ira’s own arm, his heart clenched in Ira’s fist before it was crushed in an explosion of gore. As the audience gagged and groaned in disgust, Ira stalked away grinning maniacally, motioning for a crew to clean the arena, whilst he stood by and laughed all the way. It took twenty minutes and two different cleaning crews to get rid of the man’s corpse and prepare the arena for the next fight.
His next opponent came in the form of Rusty Tygart, an old man looking around fifty years in age. Pathetic. He was taking care of the elderly now. “Rusty Tygart, the reaper sends his regards. I’ll make sure you can tell him your message personally…” He chuckled darkly, stalking forward slowly as soon as the round started, only for Rusty to flick some kind of stone into the air and launch it at Ira, who swatted it aside before rubbing his arm.
“Mr. Tygart that hurt!” He exclaimed, before vanishing in a burst of pure speed, reappearing next to Rusty and swinging his left fist at the man, who ducked and slammed his right fist into Ira’s chest, who stumbled slightly before grinning and slamming his forehead into Rusty’s. The old man stumbled back and Ira chased him, grabbing the man by the neck and gripping tightly.
“You’re in the way of my target, old man. Die!” He growled, before a sickening snap was heard as Ira’s grip increased so much that the man’s neck broke. Ira snarled, hooking his fingers and wrenching his hand backwards, ripping the man’s throat out and letting the corpse tumble to the floor. This time he didn’t wait, he turned towards the audience and snarled.
“Bring out my next opponent quickly, or for every minute I have to wait another audience member dies!” He declared, before crossing his arms and waiting. Surely enough, his target came sauntering out of the waiting area, looking confident as hell until he saw the corpse of the late Rusty lying in the ring. Ira turned towards the boy, appraising him silently before scoffing. “You’re late Daniel, but only one audience member has to die!” He declared before the gong rang and he was immediately hit by a bolt of pure darkness, sending him tumbling slightly.
So they’d started immediately to prevent audience fatalities eh? Very well, he could play their game. He leapt to his feet, sprinting at Daniel, who smirked and released a pitch black cloud from his back, which engulfed the arena. Ira merely smirked. “So you think the darkness is your ally? Fool, you merely adopted the darkness, whilst I-“ He cut himself off, to duck under a quick jab from Daniel before slamming his fist into the boy’s face, sending the child flying backwards. “-was born in it!” He finished, glaring at Daniel with one eye.
As Daniel charged again, launching dark beams at him as he charged, Ira span around them as if he was dancing, reaching out with his left arm and slamming his bracelet into the side of the boy’s head before gripping him by the neck. He noticed the audience cringe, expecting a repeat of the fight against Rusty, only to be shocked when Ira slammed his free fist into the boy’s stomach, knocking him unconscious. He’d done more than that, however. As soon as the punch made contact he’d infested the boy. All he had to do was wait.
Eventually, he dragged the boy’s unconscious body back to the residence of his family, pausing outside the door to plaster on his best fake charming smile. “Here you are Mr and Mrs Hunkipillar, one son as ordered. He’s a bit injured, but I’m afraid it was the only way to get him to come to you…” He trailed off, plastering on an apologetic smile which the couple shrugged off with smiles as they embraced him. Odd, but he could work with this.
Whilst they were embracing him, he infested them too, slipping his biomass, into their skin seamlessly before accepting their pay with a smile on his face and walking away. That smile soon morphed into a cold grin as he chuckled, bathing in the sounds of the Hunkipillar family screaming in agony. Yes, he’d brought a family back together…
