appearance
Crisis has a swarthy complexion and generally wears her hair in a ponytail that reaches all the way down to her lower back. Her bangs are usually tucked under her cowboy hat, but a pair of chin-length locks frame her cheeks. The hat has an emblem resembling a closed eye on the front, which changes to an open eye when she uses her powers. She wears a lavender jacket with purple and violet filigree, usually open in front and leaving a half-tank top with her guild’s logo on it exposed. The sleeves of the jacket are typically rolled up, and its split down the back into two tails. An ankle-length, open-front, lavender skirt with violet and purple filigree hangs low around her hips, revealing her leather skirt that also partially covers her leather leggings. This ensemble is rounded out by a pair of cowboy boots and fingerless leather gloves. Arms and stomach are usually bare, revealing lean musculature, but she will roll down her jacket's sleeves in colder weather, maybe even close it, or at least wear the jacket and open-front skirt over snow gear. She tends to prefer flowing garments that accentuate her movements. Her guild tattoo is on her stomach, just left of her navel.
personality
Quirky: Crisis has an irreverent view of the world and sometimes behaves in strange ways for her own amusement.
Savvy: She’s smart, thinks quickly on her feet, and knows a lot of random things.
Trustworthy: Crisis is unlikely to violate someone’s trust by telling secrets or trying to deceive them… Which may be an odd trait for an illusionist.
Hopeful: Crisis knows bad things happen, but when they do she expects to be able to turn it around or to find something positive.
Open-Minded: She can be accepting of novel ideas provided there is a logical reason to.
Asexual: She doesn’t have a sex drive or understand the appeal of sex. This has nothing to do with her age or gender, and there is nothing medically wrong with her that causes this. She does understand beauty, love, and badassery, however, but considers those things separate from sexuality. Although she is a virgin, her having sex will not change this aspect even if she enjoys it.
Skeptical: She doesn’t always take things at face value, especially if there are more logical explanations.
Cynical: People are selfish idiots who do idiotic, selfish things. Generally because they don’t know any better or think being better than that isn’t worthwhile.
Impulsive: Crisis occasionally acts without considering the consequences, and sometimes disregards the consequences outright.
Sardonic: Crisis’ humor can be scathing at times, but not often towards other people.
Overly-Responsible: It’s not uncommon for Crisis to take on more responsibility than she should.
history
Chryseis “Crisis” Teotwaki was an ordinary kid, and kids can be cruel. There was this boy at her school that everyone picked on, herself included. She hadn’t thought much of it; Everyone was doing it, after all, and he seemed to take it well enough. He’d just smile and shrug it off, so she assumed he was getting support elsewhere and not just internalizing his pain until it killed him. Then she saw him jump from the roof of the school to his death. The suicide note was found in his room later.
It was something she kicked herself over for some time. All she could think about was what she would’ve done if she had known, especially since she actually kind of liked him. Or maybe that was just the guilt talking. Either way, she came to think of herself as a bad person, and started acting like it. She lashed out at people, driving them away. She want to know them anymore. She wound up going to school less, and nearly dropped out.
Then a few years ago, an epic clash occurred in her hometown. A battle between good and evil spilled out into the streets, and from it rose a growing tide of destruction. She was almost caught in the crossfire, but her life was saved each time by the same mysterious woman. She never forgot what that woman said to her:
“Kid, I don’t know if you got some death wish or what, but I swear to Ra if you get in the way again I’ll kick your ass myself.”
Not the most profound quotes of all time, but Crisis managed to not see her again until after the battle when she dug her out from under some rubble. The woman’s name was Chryseis “Crisis” Estoban, and they had a lot more in common than an odd first name. They both came from large families, and they had both done things in the past they had come to regret. Estoban’s sins far outweighed Crisis’, though, being a former assassin and all. Estoban became something of a older sister to Crisis. She trusted and confided in her, and got trust and support in return.
Of the many things Crisis learned from Estoban’s imparted experience was that punishing herself for her misguided deeds was only going to make her and everyone around her miserable. In the end, it was better to accept what she had done and move on, learn from her mistakes and strive to become a better person for them. Better than who she is, better than who she was. The ideal may seem cliche, and people may say it’s outdated, but it’s no older than the alternative; It’s just a harder road to travel, and the results of walking it are greater even if those who stray from it don’t see its worth.
Their time together was short, and Estoban eventually left on a personal quest she felt she was finally ready to undertake. Crisis became a wizard herself, and sought to learn a style of magic that would help her to build and protect an ideal world. She attained the power of Hard Light Illusion, developed it into a technique that prevents collateral damage, a sought to test it alongside arguably the greatest force of good and destruction of the modern world: Fairy Tail.
Ad-Hoc Details: Crisis used to play in a graveyard when she was little, since it was closer to where she lived than the regular park. One day while playing hide-and-seek with her brothers, she fell into an open grave and wasn't found for six hours. Her mother says it explains a lot about her personality.
Primary Magic
Name: Hard Light Illusion Description: A combination of holographic projections and force fields to create what appear to be solid objects. At first glance, Hard Light Illusions can look like the genuine article, but they don’t hold up under close scrutiny. Though made of energy, they can behave like physical materials. They can even emulate texture, although this is often less convincing than the visuals.
Signature Ability
Name: Crisis Gate: Fairy Arena Element: Illusion Description: A spell that overlays an illusionary world over the real one. While ostensibly capable of being a death world that Crisis has god-like control over, its primary use is to protect the real world and innocent bystanders from being caught in the crossfire of intense battles. Space even distorts to achieve this effect. These parameters can also be inverted to amplify environmental impacts if it becomes necessary to raze everything to the ground. Bystanders are generally unable to see this illusion but can see the combatants, but the combatants can’t see the bystanders. While she can still fight while it’s active, this spell is still pretty intensive for Crisis to cast at her level and requires her to use an incantation: “Dimensional warp engaged. Expanding distortion field. External parameters defined. Internal boundaries unlimited. Crisis Gate, OPEN!”
