Pyrrha puffed her cheeks at Hawke's eye roll. Stupid boy. What did he know about cute girls anyway? Nothing? Yeah, definitely nothing. He just didn't understand that she enjoyed looking cute as much as he enjoyed buying people's companionship with chocolate. Or something. At any rate, the cheek puff turned into a triumphant grin when Hawke inadvertently expressed jealousy by trying not to look jealous. "Well, it's not as nice as home but it'll do," she admitted, examining her fingernails nonchalantly.
Hawke informed Pyrrha that a lot of girls in fiore were still in school, didn't know how to defend themselves, and saw themselves as kids. "Well, I guess you could say I'm more of a kid who might as well be an adult," she shrugged. "That's kind of what being a teen is, right? I got schooling and everything through tutors. You wouldn't believe how busy a dracoknight like me is. What with learning to be pretty, poised, smart, and dangerous when we have to be." She raised her hands a bit and made an exaggerated shrug. "I can't blame other girls for not wanting to learn to fight though. What's the point if you don't have na actual purpose for it, right?"
"I think I can imagine," Hawke said with a nod. He was choosing to ignore that grin that just demanded a solid smack to the face. He wasn't about to strike someone unless it was to protect them or someone else. It did bug him deep down however. "I've seen how people train their kids to be knights around here. Not exactly a lot free time to be had."
"I agree though," Hawke nodded again as he smiled a bit. "Though I do think no one should be defenseless either. No matter how much we try to move away from fighting and taking from others... there will always be people who just act on their greed. If everyone could defend themselves it'd make that be a much smaller problem. "But that's a fool's dream I suppose."
"At any rate," Hawke said with a small shrug. "Not everyone's as lucky as you and I. Many of them are only just starting to think about their purpose in life. Or figure out what they want to do with it. We on the other hand... while maybe not wholly, have found our place in life. And that's a better kind of strength than just being good at fighting in my opinion."

"Duh, of course it's a fool's dream. You dreamed it," Pyrrha stuck out her tongue. "Besides, have you seen the kinds of people who live around here? All sorts of thugs who can't appreciate young ladies like myself just wander around free in the woods like wild animals." Just thinking about it made Pyrrha wish her spear wasn't back in her room. Plus, civilized people didn't live in the woods willingly. It was just crazy uncomfortable to do so, plus people were made for things like comfortable beds and feather pillows, in Pyrrha's opinion.
She paused in the middle of their meandering when Hawke insisted knowing a purpose was better than just being good at fighting, raising an eyebrow. She kept her arms crossed behind her head nonchalantly, but her expression was more confused than anything. "What's that mean?" she shifted her weight slightly. "I'd have been way strong even without Lady Belfyire. She's just really helpful is all." She certainly had confidence in herself. "I mean, I can beat my brothers in non-magical stuff. I wouldn't even have to be one of you wizards for it. Buuuut maybe that's just us girls who actually stand up for ourselves and such." she shrugged, dismissing it all as she started walking again, sighing dramatically. "Maybe we're just better than boys when we try~."
"They live out there because they'll get caught if they stay in the cities," Hawke said pointedly. He ignored the part where she said it was dumb because he dreamed it. Did chocolate only make her slightly less annoying? If that was the case he'd have to forget about keeping chocolate on hand. Though, he didn't say anything more on the matter. He had things he wanted to, but it would be pointless to speak those words for the time being.
"What I meant is that purpose is a better strength than simply fighting for the sake of fighting," Hawke shrugged slightly. "I never called your skill or martial abilities into question. Or said anything belittling them."
"It's funny how you just lump all girls as better than guys with no proof that it's the case," He countered. He was all for treating women as equals, despite old practices his family sometimes kept. Even though even the women were soldiers in his family... But he wasn't going to be put down just because he was a guy either.
"You've not seen me when I try," He drove the point home. He could fight when he wanted to. Which wasn't often, even though he did do some practicing from time to time to prevent from getting rusty. "So how do you know for sure? The truth is, you don't. I don't doubt you're stronger than me in a fight, but it's a little rude to lump me in with the people out causing trouble just to make yourself look better."
"And all *I'm* saying is that even if I didn't have some sort of purpose I'd still be good at the things I'm good at!" Pyrrha argued. "Who said anything about belittling me?" She crossed her arms, frowning at the ground. "And of course girls are better. We're just more trustworthy usually. Maybe not all the time, but where I come from us girls get more power because the boys took something really important from Lady belfyire."
Her voice raised a bit more as Hawke continued to push her and her patience by claiming she was being rude. "And I'm not being rude! I'm just better than all the boys I know at fighting and stuff!" she clinched her fists and thrust her arms down in a telltale sign that Hawke needed to back off unless he wanted her yelling at him. "I can't help that stuff! And besides, I was just teasing! Why can't I tease you without you getting upset? Gah, boys are impossible, I swear."
"Says the girl that makes herself super difficult to deal with," Hawke rolled his eyes. She was frustrating, but he wasn't about to get mad. "Look, this isn't your homeland. I had no part in the theft of Lady Belfyre's precious treasure. Holding that over my head, and every other guy's head, is unfair to everyone. Including yourself."
"And I wouldn't have to defend myself by saying I'm not belittling you if you didn't act like I just insulted your abilities," Hawke sighed and reached into his pocket. It was times like these that a sucker didn't go amiss. He unwrapped it and popped it in his mouth, enjoying the strawberry flavor of the candy.
"Maybe you should try listening to the people around you a little more," Hawke suggested, the sarcastic tone leaving his voice for the moment, thanks partially to the candy. "Here in Fiore, men and women are equal. Or are supposed to be anyway. All you do by saying girls are better is burn bridges you might need for your mission. And it makes Lady Belfyre look bad."

"IIII didn't say I was holding anything over your head, aside from being a stupid boy. And that has nothing to do with your gender, Dummy." Yep. Now he'd done it. "And I listen to people just fine! Maybe you should clean out your ears and listen a little better! I do just fine as a Dracoknight and representing what and who I need to! Maybe you're just dumb and can't say things without making a girl angry, and that's why you don't have a girlfriend!" she crossed her arms and turned away, no longer moving.
"It's not like I look down on my brothers, you know. I just tease them because I'm their younger sister and that's my job. Maybe you need a younger sister to understand me, who knows?" she thrust her hands up. "But This whole conversation is stupid! I don't even know what to say because you'll just take it the wrong way or make assumptions or do some other dumb thing that makes me even madder and I'm just trying to enjoy myself!"
"Well them stop using gender when saying people are better and I wouldn't assume you're saying one's better than the other," Hawke shot back and sucked on his sucker. She didn't hear herself talk or something... that had to be her problem. Because she kept saying stuff like girls were better than boys, which was contrary to what she just claimed.
"If I have a younger sibling, then they're still just a baby," He continued and watched her implode and resisted grinning. He knew how to play the younger sibling card, and she was apparently melting down. And he was just going to ignore the fact that he'd been the one being bothered just a short time ago. Because right now he was winning. He'd pay for it in chocolate later he was sure. "So I'm not sure how much that'd help with learning how to deal with you."
"I have an older sister," He said with a slight shrug. "And she's the one that taught me how to handle girls. So, maybe you should track her down and be angry at her. And besides, I don't need a girlfriend. I take care of myself just fine."
"Girls aren't around to take care of boys, dummy." Pyrrha was obviously trying to calm down, though she wasn't quite succeeding. "And we're not all the same, plus were you even listening? I just tease about girls being better because it got fun reaction from my four older brothers." She was debating on whether she even wanted to follow him around at this point. He listened infuriatingly little all the while insisting she was the immature one. It was infuriating! Why was it she kept wanting to think of him as a friend, anyway? Maybe because he reminded her a bit of a nonviolent version of her closest brother, Tobias. Either way, he was a jerk and it made her upset.
"Beside I didn't say you needed a girlfriend. I said you didn't have one. My Mom hasn't been married since I was really little and Dad died, so I know people can go on their own. I just figured you'd, you know, be human and want someone like any sane person. But I guess I was wrong." She brushed her bangs out of her face and crossed her arms before making a 'hmph' noise and looking away. She was *not* going to be chased off by his annoying behavior this time, even if he hoped she would.
"In a good relationship, the boy and girl take care of each other," Hawke corrected her, sucker firmly stuck in his mouth at this point. He swore there wasd like, some barrier between them that prevented her from understanding him. "At least that's what my mother said. And I figure it's got merit after talking to all the people I've met."
"You say you're teasing," He continued as he wandered aimlessly at this point. He didn't really care where he ended up, but he wished the banshee following him would leave. "But you make it sound like that's what you honestly believe. And besides... How am I supposed to know when you're teasing and when you're not? I have magic but it doesn't allow me to read minds!"
"...Though, it kinda sucks that your dad's gone," Hawke said a little more sympathetically. Sure, he was at odds with his dad but... he wouldn't want to wish anyone's father to not be in their life.
"*I* like to tease people," Pyrrha let her arms fall and just followed Hawke, a cross expression on her face. "Maybe you just don't know me very well so you can't tell," she insisted. "That doesn't make it my fault like you act like it does. Besides, we're not even from the same country, why should I think the same way you do either way? We obviously view dragons differently. Maybe you're all wrong for not treating them like royalty, hmm?"
It wasn't really like her to be that introspective or to make that logical of a point, but every once in awhile such things popped out of her mouth in her rants. Honestly she was as surprised as anyone, considering her goal was rarely to win the argument through logic and more through sheer force of will. "It's hard to miss someone you never knew," she calmed down a bit when he expressed sympathy for not knowing her dad. "I'm happy with things how they are, even being in this backwards dragon hating country for who knows how long." Bloo, who had just let the two argue the whole time, made a slight agreeing noise. He too liked the chance to travel with Pyrrha.
"Well it's hard to get to know someone that seems to get offended over just about, and I do emphasize just about, anything that gets said," He said with a small shrug. He pulled the half eaten sucker of out his mouth for a moment and licked his lips. The problem with suckers was it made your lips sticky if you were talking while eating one... Or at least they did to him.
"And I don't hate dragons," He said with a small shrug. "In fact, there's a few ruins that depict people and dragons having lived together here a long time ago. People are just scared since Valland was able to use them to attack people here. And let's be honest, dragons are a little more terrifying than invading soldiers, no?"
"I won't bow down to dragons as royalty," He said with a small nod as he pulled out a small water bottle and took a sip of it. "I wouldn't mind getting to know them better. And I know they could end me easily if they wanted to, but I prefer not looking up at others. I like it when people treat each other as equals."
"You Fiore people are weird. People aren't equal, that's just how it is." Pyrrha made a shrugging motion, looking unconcerned. Then again, why should she be, being the high ranking dracoknight/noble she was? "It's not that all people shouldn't be treated like people, but people have different stations and it's proper to address them as such." she patted the still mostly quiet drake on the head. "That includes drakes and dragons, too." Not to mention herself, who wished to be treated like a dracoknight, since she'd earned that title from all her training.
At any rate, she was tired of arguing. "See? I didn't get offended by that statement. I can be all pleasant and stuff, since apparently you think I'm so insufferable for not liking the way you treat me," she stuck out her tongue. She actually could be quite pleasant. He knew that from earlier, she just found it much harder when he'd spent the last ten minutes making her want to yell at him and storm away.
"We had royalty," Hawke's tone took a slightly sour tone as he recalled his teachings. Then he held up a hand as if he was holding a book, mostly for dramatic effect. At the same time he made his voice deeper. "It's our duty to uphold these values and traditions for king and country."
"But you know, people are still just people regardless of their station," He continued with a slight shrug. His arm fell back to his side as the more aloof tone made itself known again. "A king is still just a man, same as the farmer who tills the fields. A knight is just a woman, the same as the baker's daughter that would one day take over the shop. The only difference is the path they walk."
"Neither is really above the other. The king cannot eat if the farmer doesn't plow the field, but neither can the farmer plow the field if the king isn't there to provide order and stability," He said using an example to illustrate his point. "Of course... with dragons it's a little different."
"And you're insufferable because a lot of the time you act like a brat," He continued with another slight shrug. "And it's really hard not to treat someone how they act. You can blame my upbringing for that one. I do want it known though, that I appreciate when you're pleasant. It's easy to talk to someone when she isn't getting angry for reasons I neither understand, nor get told about."
"Wow." Pyrrha's own tone took on a less than amused inflection. "You really are bad at listening to a girl when she talks, aren't you, Dummy?" She had to use her insulting nickname for him in this situation. It was just called for when he was lecturing her over something she'd literally just said. "AND I'M NOT A BRAT! I'm just excitable and if you think that's bratty then maybe you really are dumb! Or mean! ... or both." Pyrrha crossed her arms, frowning and glaring into the distance, not even bothering to look at Hawke anymore.
Why did she have such a hard time getting along with people here? She got along with her brothers. Well, okay she didn't get along with them great, but she was their little sister and that was to be expected. And she argued with her mom sometimes, but that was normal too. Maybe Bloo and Lady Belfyire were the only ones that understood her. "Well maybe I can't explain something that I don't get either," she stated more flatly, a bit like the first time but with less intentional insult in her tone. "... It's not my fault people can't seem to handle my personality..."
